Liu Qi, Member of the CCCPC Politic Bureau, Beijing Municipal CPC Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Beijing Olympics Organizing Committee (BOCOG), said on September 22 that Beijing will learn from international practice and successful experience of past Olympics and provide high-quality and convenient service to media reporting the 2008 Olympic Games. Liu Qi made the remarks while delivering a speech at the 2005 World Broadcasters Conference for the Beijing Olympics.

Liu said Beijing will make appropriate arrangement for foreign media and reporters during the Beijing Olympics, which mainly includes:

First, according to the Olympic Charter, any journalist with the Olympic identification registration card issued by the IOC can make multiple entries into China during the Olympic Games and one month before and after the Olympic Games with their passport and official travel documents. The BOCOG will, according to the provision, assist the abovementioned personnel reporting the games in solving problems related to multiple entries.

Second, Beijing will make arrangement to facilitate multiple entries before the Olympic Games by Beijing Olympic Broadcasting Corporation, right-carrying broadcasters and other foreign journalists.

Third, Beijing will, in accordance with the provisions of the Olympic Charter, grant tax exemption to the entry, use and exit of the equipment and articles of foreign press reporting the Games as long as they are consumed during the Games or re-transported out within a reasonable period after the Games.

Fourth, all press will be able to leave China with the Olympic materials shot and produced in China for use of overseas broadcasting without any limitation.

Fifth, the broadcasters may shoot press material related to the Games with famous scenic spots as background.

Sixth, the Beijing Olympic press center co-organized by the BOCOG and the Beijing government will be responsible for receiving applications by foreign journalists for coming to China to prepare the coverage of the Games before the Games is opened; assisting going through visa, customs and other necessary procedures; and helping reporting activities.

Seventh, the right-carrying Olympic broadcasters and registered press, when needing to come to China for inspecting working conditions or making preparations, can contact the Media Operations Department of the BOCOG. The department will assist in going through relevant procedures and making arrangements.

Liu said Beijing will set up press center in every matching venue and the Olympic Village, which will facilitate radio and TV broadcasting. Around the Olympic central area sufficient and appropriate hotels will be arranged to provide accommodations to the press. Moreover, will provide the press with efficient, comfortable and convenient working and living conditions in every aspect such as transportation, catering, volunteers, language and information services.
