No vote Saturday for EU draft resolution on Iran

The International Atomic Energy Agency board of governors meeting would not vote on the draft resolution on the Iran nuclear issue presented by the European Union (EU), IAEA spokeswoman Melissa Fleming announced in Vienna on Friday night.

However, the spokeswoman said the IAEA board would "take a decision" Saturday afternoon.

"There is no vote on the procedure," said Fleming, adding that the board members would meet Saturday to decide how to deal with the resolution.

Earlier Friday night, Britain, which represents the EU, officially tabled to the IAEA board the revised draft resolution on Iran, requiring the IAEA decision-making body to formally discuss the EU proposal on Iran.

The draft resolution accused Iran of "non compliance" to its obligations of the NPT (the Non-Proliferation Treaty) Safeguards Agreement, but it does not demand immediate referral of the Iran case to the UN Security Council.
