Typhoon Damrey, the 18th of the year, has hit China's southernmost island province of Hainan. It's the strongest typhoon in twenty years.
The local meteorological station says Damrey landed on the north of Wanning City in eastern Hainan at four this morning. The typhoon is moving westward and is expected to sweep the whole province very soon. Rainstorms are forecast with the typhoon, and it's feared Damrey could cause huge losses to rice, rubber and banana harvests.
