Russia removes Ukraine's Tymoshenko from wanted list
font size

The office of the Russian chief military prosecutor has removed former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko from the internationally wanted list and cancelled her arrest warrant, the Prosecutor General's Office said Monday.

"Investigators made the decision after Tymoshenko visited the Prosecutor General's Office last weekend and offered the explanations the investigation needed," a spokesman for the Prosecutor General's Office told the Interfax news agency.

Tymoshenko is to continue voluntary visits to the office of the Russian chief military prosecutor for further investigation, the spokesman said.

Tymoshenko, who was the comrade-in-arms of President Viktor Yushchenko in last year's Orange Revolution but was sacked by Yushchenko amid infighting among top government officials, had been charged by Russia with bribing senior Russian Defense Ministry officials.

In Ukraine, Tymoshenko has seen her popularity rising to rival Yushchenko's. She said in an interview with Russia's Kommersant daily earlier this month that she will win the parliamentary election next spring and return as head of government.
