Russia to increase payments to UN budget

Russia as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council will increase payments to the U.N. budget, the Russian Foreign Ministry said, commenting on Japan's statement on its possible cut of payments to the U.N. budget and the need to increase payments by permanent Security Council members.

The scale of payments to the budget in set by the U.N. committee once in three years. The main factor is solvency of states. Solvency is based on gross national product indices.

Thus, payment rates vary. They change depending on a state's economic situation, a ministerial source noted.

As far as Russia is concerned, its economy is actively developing, and its share in the gross world product is increasing, and it will result in increased payments to the U.N. budget, the source said.
