Beijing's No. 13 metro line has transported more than 100 million passengers since it was put into operation three years ago, said an official with the municipal subway operation company.
With 16 stations at a total length of 40.85 km, the underground tramline has largely relieved the traffic tension in the north Beijing region by handling 200,000 passengers daily, a big jump from the daily 40,000 people when it was first put into operation in 2002.
The Beijing subway transport length has increased to the present 114 km from 54 km three years ago. More than 90 percent of the surveyed passengers said they were content with Beijing metro.
The official said that tramlines account for 10 percent of urban transport of Beijing, and are expected to reach 20 percent in 2008. It is expected that the tramlines will account for 50 percent of Beijing passenger transport in 2050.
