US says Iran must abide by int'l accords

The United States reiterated on Monday that Iran must abide by international accords on nuclear programs or face possible UN sanctions.

"It is unacceptable the way Iran is behaving. And if it does not come into compliance, then the matter is going to be referred to the United Nations Security Council," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

"There is a growing majority of nations that recognize Iran's noncompliance must be addressed," McClellan said, adding that the United States will continue supporting the diplomatic efforts of the Europeans to resolve Iran's nuclear issue.

The International Atomic Energy Agency adopted a draft resolution Saturday, accusing Iran of breaching international nuclear safeguards and committing suspicious nuclear activities which had "given rise to questions that are within the competence of the Security Council."

Iran on Sunday rejected the UN nuclear watchdog's resolution as "political motivated, illegal and illogical" but vowed at the same time to continue nuclear talks.
