Cuban government Tuesday said the 43-year -long US blockade against the Caribbean country violates basic principles of the United Nations, describing it as a "genocidal" policy.
The embargo against Cuba is a violation of international law and freedom of trade and navigation, said a government report addressed by Vice Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Tuesday.
The blockade policy is "genocidal" as it leaves negative effects on Cuba's medical and educational sectors, said the 63-page report titled "the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by United States."
According to the Cuban government, the embargo imposed by Washington has caused a total of 82 billion US dollars in damage to the Caribbean nation during the past 43 years.
The US blockade bans Cuban exports to the United States and bars US citizens from directly traveling to Cuba. US Vessels and aircraft are not allowed to dock or land at Cuban ports and airports, said the Cuban government.
