Russia test-launches latest ballistic missile of BulavaRussia's Northern Fleet has successfully test-launched a newly-developed R-30 ballistic missile, with multiple independent reentry vehicles forming the core of the new Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missile system (SS-NX-30), the Interfax news agency reported on Wednesday. "The missile is part of the fourth generation Bulava naval missile system," Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said at a Wednesday meeting in Moscow on occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry. Ivanov in his speech praised the harmonization of the new submarine-launched ballistic missile system with the ground- launched strategic missile system, saying it was a distinctive feature of Bulava. He noted that the new missile system was fully designed and built by the Russian defense industry. According to Ivanov, the missile was fired from Dmitri Donskoy nuclear-powered strategic submarine in surface condition. "The missile carried out its mission and hit its target in the Kamchatka firing range," he said. He also pointed out that the successful test of the advanced missile should owe to the experts who have made "unique solutions" in the nuclear industry. Source: Xinhua |
