Turkey sells air defense system to Netherlands

Turkey's biggest defense firm ASELSAN on Thursday signed a 23-million-euro deal for the sale of 18 Stinger weapon platforms (Pedestal Mounted Air Defense System- PMADS) to the Dutch Royal Army.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Ankara, Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said it was the first time that ASELSAN sold an advanced weapon system to a Western country.

ASELSAN Director General Berkman said the system ensured important benefits for protection of strategic facilities like dams, military bases and ports.

ASELSAN's PMADS solution is a fully automated, short-range air defense system integrating various sensors through a fire control computer.
