Wang Meng won the first gold medal for China in the women's 1500m at the Short Track Speed Skating World Cup which opened on Friday in Hangzhou.
Wang, ranked first in World Cup overall rankings in 2004, defeated a strong field of three South Koreans in the final for the title with a time of two minutes 23.375 seconds.
Jin Sun-Yu of South Korea was second in 2:23.440 with her country woman Byun Chun-Sa third in 2:24.022.
Chinese skater Yang Yang (A), gold medalist at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, finished sixth in 2:25.135.
