Susilo confirms Bali bombings as "suicide"
font size

Suicide bombings in two places on Indonesia's favorite travel destination Bali Island on Saturday evening had killed 26 people and injured more than 50 so far, said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here on Sunday while inspecting the explosion scenes at Jimbarang District and Kuta Town Square.

The investigators led by a cabinet minister, the police chief and a military officer would make efforts to find the perpetrators as soon as possible, he said.

Meanwhile, the President assured that the security at enclosed places like hotels on the island were okey, but open places would be in danger if blasts were carried out there.

At least three explosions occurred at Cafe Nyoman in Jimbarang and Restaurant Raja in Kuta on Saturday evening. Both buildings were destroyed. This has been the second time that the island was hit by bombings. On Oct. 12, 2002, a major blast in Bali killed 202 people, most of whom were foreign tourists.
