Zimbabwe to build science museum
font size

The Zimbabwe Academy of Sciences (ZAS) is planning to build a museum to display what scientists have achieved, an expert said on Sunday. Academy president Professor Christopher Chetsanga said the project required help from all sectors.

"We expect to get assistance from both the government and the private sector," he said.

Earlier this year the government donated 100 million Zimbabwean dollar (about 3846 US dollars) towards the academy to help fund its activities in research and development.

Chetsanga said last month the academy received a further 150 million Zimbabwean dollars (about 5769 US dollars) from the Italian-based Inter Academy Panel (IAP), an association of all academies of science, to set up its offices.

Chetsanga said no major developments had taken place since its formation as the academy was still identifying its needs as well as mobilizing resources.

He said Science and Technology Development Deputy Minister Patrick Zhuwao expressed interest in strengthening relations with the academy and promoting partnership in carrying out national projects.

The academy is expected to champion Zimbabwe's economic development and promote research to further the country's industrialization objective.
