Twenty-eight Taliban militants were killed Sunday night during an attack with Afghan National Army ( ANA) in the eastern Afghan province of Paktia, an Afghan official said Monday.

"Taliban militants attacked a post of ANA soldiers in the bordering Angor Dara area of Shekin district of Paktia last night at about 10 p.m.. ANA soldiers then fought back and the fight lasted about four hours with 28 bodies of Taliban were found," Mohammad Ishaq Paimana, press officer of the Defense Ministry told Xinhua.

As the bordering area between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Shekin district is the troublesome place where Taliban militants always carry out some attacks against Afghan or foreign troops.

"In the Taliban area occupied by our soldiers, we also found big amount of ammunition, including two operators of missiles, 10 missiles, 12 RPG rocket launchers, 11 boxes of machine gun bullets, " Paimana added.

In the attack, four ANA soldiers were injured and one was in serious condition, said the officer.

Taliban militants, who failed to destroy the landmark parliamentary elections on Sept. 18, have vowed to drive all the US-dominated foreign troops out of Afghanistan, and intensified the attack against Afghan and foreign troops.

Over 1,200 people with majority of them militants, according to official sources, have been killed in Taliban-led insurgency against some 20,000-storng US-dominated foreign troops and 30,000 fledgling Afghan National Army (ANA) since the beginning of this year.
