US says it shares British concerns of Iran over Iraq
font size

The United States said on Thursday that it shares British Prime Minister Tony Blair's concerns regarding Iran's role in neighboring Iraq.

Blair has expressed concerns and the British side is investigating that Iran and potentially Hezbollah, might have supplied material, know-how to the insurgents in Iraq and resulted in the deaths of British soldiers, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said at a briefing.

"For our part, certainly we share those concerns. We stand with the British government as they investigate this matter," he said.

The United States has expressed concerns about Iran over Iraq. "The Iraqis are dealing with the Iranians and urging them to establish a transparent relationship with the Iraqi government that is based on mutual respect," McCormack said.

In a joint news conference with visiting Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on Thursday, Blair warned Iran against interfering in Iraq and said that London suspected explosives used to kill British troops there may have come from Iran.
