Suspected bird flu patient dies in Indonesia
font size

A woman, who had developed bird flu symptoms and put under intensive treatment at a hospital in Jakarta, finally died, a hospital spokesman said Friday.

The 38-year-old woman died Thursday evening after having been treated at the Sulianto Saroso Hospital since Sept. 30, said spokesman Ilham Pattu.

"When she arrived at the hospital, her condition was very critical," he was quoted by the Detikcom online news service as saying.

If further laboratory test shows the woman positive of bird flu, she will become the ninth bird flu casualty in Indonesia, where at least 85 people have been hospitalized for developing bird flu symptoms.

The Sulianto Saroso Hospital first accommodated 44 suspected bird flu patients, but 24 of the patients were later allowed to go home.
