Earthquake in Indian-controlled Kashmir shakes Kabul
font size

The earthquake that shook Afghan capital Kabul Saturday morning is reported from Indian-controlled Kashmir, with the intensity of about 7.8 magnitude, a local TV station said.

"The earthquake occurred at about 8:30 a.m. this morning. The epicenter is about 350 km northeast of Pakistani capital Islamabad, and 125 km northwest of Indian Kashmir. That is the strongest earthquake in India in recent years," the TV station reported.

"The Kashmir area is badly destroyed in the earthquake, and many buildings collapsed. In Pakistan's capital Islamabad, even a 19-floor building collapsed," it added.

In Afghan capital Kabul, many people ran out of home after feeling the jolt.

"Compared with quakes before, this time the feeling is much stronger. We are all afraid of the building collapse and ran to the street," a man living on the fourth floor of a building in Kabul told Xinhua.

By press time, Islamabad still can feel the aftershock. But there is no report of casualties of so far.
