Vietnam shine at int'l taekwondo tournament

Vietnam grabbed four gold medals and three silver ones on the first day of the international taekwondo tournament which opened Friday.

Vietnamese male athlete Chu Thien Quang defeated Seong Hyun Kimfrom South Korea to win the gold medal at the 62-kg category, and another local contestant Doan Minh Dang triumphed over his compatriot at the 54-kg division.

Vietnamese female athlete Phan Thi My Dung and Tran Bich Dao beat their compatriots at the categories of 51 kg and 47 kg, respectively, to get two other gold medals. All the four finals were fierce, resulting in some mild injuries.

The two-day tournament is attended by 73 male and female contestants from Chinese Hong Kong, the Chinese city of Nanning, South Korea and Vietnam with four teams.
