Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei said Wednesday that he doesn't have time to form a new cabinet.
On Oct. 3, the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) asked to reshuffle Qurei's cabinet within two weeks or face a no-confidence vote for failing to stamp out armed chaos in the Gaza Strip.
"We don't have time to form a new cabinet before the Palestinian legislative elections on Jan. 25," said Qurei who chaired a cabinet meeting in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Wednesday morning.
However, he said that a caretaker cabinet could be formed
shortly before the parliamentary elections as many ministers including himself who want to run in the elections will resign.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister Nabil Shaath said that the debate on forming a new cabinet by Fatah central committee was postponed till after the visit of President Mahmoud Abbas to the United States later this month.
