Submarine optical fiber cable put into use in Hainan
font size

After one year's test run, Guangdong-Hainan section of China Unicom's inter-provincial trunk line was officially put into use recently. Its 12-km-long cable in Hainan province is Hainan Unicom's first self-built submarine cable.

The completion of the project will increase capacity of Hainan Unicom's inter-provincial transmission network and enhance its safety performance; it will play an active role in improving quality of Hainan's outbound communication.

The old cable of Hainan can no longer satisfy demands as the communication services increase. With support of headquarters, Hainan Unicom further increased efforts expanding tranmission network and started consecution of the submarine cable in Hainan in 2001.

Linking Guangzhou and Haikou, the newly-built cable is 64 km long, with a section of 12 km in Hainan. The cable has been working stably since the trial operation began at the end of 2003.
