Palestinian sources said on Thursday that the mainstream Fatah movement and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) held talks in Gaza City Wednesday night in an effort to end tension.
The sources said during the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to end the rising tension between Palestinian police and Hamas members, which led to the killing of at least three policemen in recent clashes.
Fatah and Hamas reiterated commitment to ending armed rallies in the Palestinian territories and vowed to help restore stability and show respect to law, the sources added.
Senior Fatah members Ahmed Helles and Sameer Mashrawi, Hamas leaders Ismail Haneya and Saed Syam attended the meeting.
