Five US soldiers killed in western Iraq
font size

Five US soldiers were killed on Saturday in the western Iraqi city of Ramadi, the US military said on Sunday.

The five were killed when a roadside bomb hit their vehicle in the city, some 100 km west of Baghdad, as Iraqis voted on a draft constitution in a referendum, the military said.

The military didn't provide further details on the deaths, which have brought to at least 1,970 the number of US soldiers killed since the US-led war in Iraqi in 2003.

Ramadi, mainly Sunni, is located in the volatile Anbar province in the west.
