Two Ugandan chess players Hassan Mulambe and Steven Kawuma will participate in the 2005 African individual chess championships scheduled for Nov. 18-29, 2005 in Lusaka, Zambia, local press reported on Monday.
The continent event, which will take place at Chrismar Hotel in Lusaka, is a qualification event for the 1.57-million-US dollar-World Chess Cup 2005 scheduled for Dec. 3-24, 2005 in the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous region of Russia.
The top six players from African tournament will be the African qualifiers to the global showcase. The African championship will be played over a Swiss system format played over nine rounds in accordance with world chess governing body, the Federation of International Chess (FIDE) regulations.
Uganda's Kawuma is a three-time national Olympian and the duo were part of the national team that went for a 10-day training camp in Germany between September and October.
