Hundreds of students have fled their places after months of closure of private and boarding schools in a western district of Nepal, an official said Monday.
"More than 600 students studying in various private schools in Argakhanchi district, some 400 km west of Kathmandu, have fled their places," the official at Private and Boarding Schools Organization of Nepal(PABSON), a non-governmental organization, said on condition of anonymity.
The schools were closed owing to threats from "All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary", an anti- government guerrillas supported organization, he noted, adding, " The organization had announced the closure after schools' management failed to reduce fees as demanded."
Most private schools in the district remain closed since last 15 months, he revealed.
"Several hundred students fleeing the district have enrolled themselves in schools of nearby districts," he noted.
Continuous efforts from the PABSON, guardians and local human rights organizations have failed to reopen the school, he added.
