Qurei rejects violence
font size

Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei said Monday that he rejects any action that violates a truce between the Palestinians and Israel.

Qurei told reporters after meeting with a high-ranking Egyptian security delegation that he condemns Israel's measures against Palestinian activists.

Israel has taken measures during the holy month of Ramadan, including tightening closure, blocking traffic and imposing siege on towns and villages in the West Bank, he said.

Qurei called on Israel to stop its actions against the Palestinians.

On Monday, the Israeli army imposed tough security measures on Hebron and Bethlehem after three Israelis were shot dead Sunday in a drive-by shooting attack by Palestinian militants in the Gush Etzion junction near Bethlehem in the West Bank, south of Jerusalem.

Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, an armed offshoot of the mainstream Fatah movement, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Shortly afterwards, Nihad Abu Ghanem, a Palestinian activist, was shot dead by Israeli soldiers near the northern West Bank town of Jenin.
