The United States said on Monday that it has deep concerns about Iran's nuclear weapons program and it must return to negotiations with the EU or face possible UN sanctions.
"We continue to call on Iran to get back to the negotiating table and act in good faith. We've made that very clear," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said at a briefing.
McClellan claimed that a majority of countries at the International Atomic Energy Agency now supports sending Iran to the Security Council if they don't come back to the table and negotiate in good faith.
"And that is certainly an option that is on the table, and if Iran does not change its behavior and get back to the negotiating table, it is an option that is available to the international community," McClellan said.
The United States has said that it supports diplomatic efforts by Britain, France and Germany to resolve Iran's nuclear issue and has threatened to submit the issue to the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions if the efforts fail.
Washington has accused Teheran of developing nuclear weapons program under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Iran has denied the accusation.
