Premier: China establishes bird flu monitoring network
font size

The Chinese government attaches great importance to bird flu prevention and has set up a national monitoring network and emergency response plans to prevent any future epidemic spreading.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao made the remarks when meeting with Australian Governor-General Michael Jeffery on Tuesday in Beijing.

China has enhanced import and export quarantine in a bid to stop the spread of bird flu, Wen said, adding, "China has conducted technological exchanges and cooperation with the international community on prevention and control of bird flu."

Wen told Jeffery that China proposed to hold a conference next year in Beijing on new pandemics, focusing on the monitoring, control, prevention and treatment of bird flu and on sharing information on the subject.

China is willing to enhance cooperation with Australia and other countries in this area, he said.
