A group of Sri Lankan students are urging the Royal Norwegian government to bring pressure on the Tamil Tigers to give up arms.
The group calling itself 'Students for Human Rights' staged a noisy demonstration in front of the Norwegian embassy here Wednesday calling for action to force the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels to give up arms.
Norway is facilitating peace between the rebels who are based in the north and east provinces and the government to try and bring an end to the drawn-out separatist armed conflict.
The students, backed by the main left party the JVP or the People's Liberation Front, were protesting against the gunning down of two Heads of schools in the northern Jaffna peninsula last week.
The LTTE was blamed for the two killings.
Jeewa Kumari Ranasinghe, one of the demonstrating students, said that the government of Norway as facilitators must condemn the killings and bring pressure on the LTTE to give up arms.
Norway has faced criticism from extremist and nationalist groups who claim they are biased towards the Tigers.
