Portugal's Benfica drew 1-1 with Spanish team Villareal in the Madrigal stadium, leaving Champion's League Group D rankings unchanged, local press said.

Elsewhere in the group, Lille drew 0-0 with Manchester United.

Villarreal's Argentine star Riquelme opened the scoring in the 73rd minute scoring a goal from a penalty and beating the young goalkeeper Rui Nereu, who had come on as a substitute.

Four minutes later Benfica's Manuel Fernandes kicked a winning ball from outside the area to make it a draw.

Manchester United leads the group with five points, followed by Benfica with four, Villareal is in third position and France's Lille is trailing.
