The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is carrying out a month-long anti-malaria campaign through distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets to over 40,000 families in northern Uganda.
An ICRC statement was quoted by local media as saying on Friday that the anti-malaria drive was targeting internally displaced persons in camps in Gulu, Pader and Kitgum districts.
"Assessment of the people's knowledge, attitudes and practices about malaria were conducted prior to the distribution. The observations led ICRC to conduct health education sessions alongside the subsequent delivery of mosquito nets, instructing the people on the transmission of malaria and the correct use of the nets," the statement said.
Malaria is one of the major killers in Uganda. About 80,000 people die of the disease every year in the east African country.
