Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has talked with Cyndi Courvill, special Assistant to US President George W. Bush and senior director of African affairs at the National Security Council on solution for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) problems.
According to a press release issued here on Friday by the State House, Museveni Thursday told the US government official that the Ugandan government wants the Lusaka Agreement with regard to the DRC peace and democratization processes to be fully implemented.
On Wednesday, Museveni called on the DRC not to use negative forces to endanger the security of its neighbors when he met in Kampala chief of general staff of DRC army and a delegation of the United Nations Observer Mission in the DRC (MONUC).
"Dr. Courvill agreed with President Museveni that the solution for the DRC problems should entail the holding of elections and dealing firmly with negative militias," the press release said.
A group of LRA rebels under the leadership of Deputy Commander Vincent Otti crossed to northeastern DRC last month after a hot pursuit by joint operations between the Ugandan army and the Sudanese People's Liberation Army in southern Sudan.
The rebels were again flushed out of the DRC, after Congolese army and MONUC deployed heavily in the region. However, the Ugandan military said there are reports that the same group has crossed back to the DRC.
On Thursday, Ugandan Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa called for joint operations with the Congolese troops and UN peacekeepers against the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels some of whom have fled into eastern Congo.
