The situation in Russia's breakaway republic of Chechnya has been stabilized and is under control, Chechen President Alu Alkhanov said on Friday.
"On the whole, the situation in the republic is under law enforcers' control; I'm pleased with the joint work of federal bodies and the republic's law enforcers," the Itar-Tass agency quoted Alkhanov as saying.
The law-enforcement organs in Chechnya work mainly to prevent attacks by militants, he said, adding that the police there have coped with 65 terrorist attacks, established the location of 180 missing people, detained 247 militants and killed 113 since the beginning of this year.
Among the detainees are 10 gang heads and 16 ringleaders are among the killed, he added.
Thirty-five militants have turned themselves in to authorities, 11 bases of militants and 119 weapons caches have been destroyed, according to the republic's Interior Ministry.
The police had also seized a large number of weapons, including 323 assault rifles, 282 grenade launchers, 134 pistols, 41 machine guns, and almost 200,000 rounds of various ammunition, 459 mines, 135 home-made bombs and more than 1,830 kg of explosives.
The Chechen president noted that over the past few years, about 7,000 militants have surrendered their arms and returned to peaceful life. Some of them even joined law enforcement agencies.
