Ugandan president emphasizes prevention in curbing HIV/AIDS pandemicUgandan President Yoweri Museveni has emphasized since there is no known cure yet against HIV/AIDS, the "prevention is better than cure" option is vital in the fight against the pandemic, according to a press release issued here on Saturday by State House. President Museveni made the remarks on Friday when he was commissioning the newly built Joint Clinic Research Center Branch at Rushere Hospital in Nyabushozi county, new-established district of Kiruhura in southern Uganda. The president appealed to all people to protect themselves from acquiring the HIV/AIDS virus before thinking of other means to fight the scourge, saying since no drugs can cure HIV/AIDS, preventing oneself from acquiring the virus was more important than relying on drugs. Museveni cautioned Ugandans against the many mushrooming pretentious groups that claim to cure HIV/AIDS. The president appealed to the people to go to the qualified medical personnel in the country for health consultations, testing and treatment. Uganda has reduced the HIV infection rate to over 6 percent currently from 18 percent in 1993. Source: Xinhua |
