Russia opposes the politicization of the forthcoming debates in U.N. Security Council over the Lebanese ex-prime minister Rafik Hariri's murder, Russian Foreign Ministry stressed on Saturday.

Commenting on the report made by the U.N. International Independent Investigation Commissioner, Detlev Mehlis, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said, "The document will require a detailed study and analysis. We believe that its debates in the U.N. Security Council should not be politicized, but it should help us find the truth."

The Russian diplomat said he is convinced "The solution to the problem should not lead to a new trouble spot and destabilize the situation in the Middle East", according to the Itar-Tass news agency.

The debates of the U.N. Security Council over the reports on Hariri's murder are scheduled on October 26.

Rafik Hariri was a Moslem Lebanese self-made billionaire and business tycoon, and was twice prime minister of Lebanon from 1992 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2004. He last resigned from office on October 20, 2004.

He was assassinated on February 14, 2005, when explosives equivalent to around 1000 kilos of TNT were detonated as his motorcade drove past the St. George Hotel in the Lebanese capital of Beirut.
