Ugandan army kills four rebels in north

Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF) on Friday killed four Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels north of Latanga hills and recovered 111 rounds of ammunition in Pader District in northern part of the east African country, according to Radio Uganda on Saturday.

Deo Akiiki, UPDF's 5th division public relations officer, said two LRA reporters also surrendered to the UPDF in Namakura in Kitgum district in the north.

Akiiki said one of the reporters, Francis Lakara told the army that the rebels have run out of food in their stores.

Akiiki also said that a field LRA Commander Opio Makasi escaped narrowly during the operation.

LRA rebels, based in southern Sudan, have killed tens of thousands of civilians, abducted over 20,000 children and displaced over 1.4 million people in their 19-year rebellion in northern Uganda.
