Cairo International Airport's authorities on Sunday destroyed 2.5 tones of duckling import from France as part of efforts to keep out the bird flu, the official MENA news agency reported.
The ducklings were destroyed and buried "in conformity with a decision taken recently banning the import of any birds for fear of the bird flu virus," said MENA.
The ban took effect on Oct. 20.
The Egyptian government has decided not to issue hunting licences this season as a precautionary measure against the spread of bird flu.
Government bodies would also trace migratory birds routes and their stops as part of a strategy to protect the country from the deadly H5N1 strain of avian flu.
