Ugandan president appoints high rank military officers

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who is also commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, has appointed army commander Lieutenant General Aronda Nyakairima as chief of defense forces (CDF) with rank of General.

The appointment was contained in a statement signed by President Museveni on Sunday with immediate effect, according to a press release issued here by the State House on Monday.

In the big changes in the Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF), Major General Ivan Koreta was appointed as deputy CDF and inspector general of armed forces (General HQs) with rank of Lieutenant General.

Colonial Rusoke was appointed as joint chief of staff of the UPDF with rank of Lieutenant General, while Major General Katumba Wamala as commander of land forces with rank of Lieutenant General.

Other appointments included Colonel Muheesi as chief of staff of land forces with rank of Brigadier, Brigadier Oweyesigire as commander of air force with rank of Major General, Colonel Turyagyenda as deputy commander of air force and chief of staff with rank of Brigadier, Colonel Francis Okello as chief political commissar with rank of Brigadier, Colonel Kayemba as chief of training and operations with rank of Brigadier.

The new appointments also included infantry division commanders and army officers to other state responsibilities.
