Jordanian king arrives in Khartoum on brief visitJordanian king Abdullah II arrived in Khartoum on Tuesday evening on a brief visit to Sudan. Abdullah is the first Arab leader to visit Sudan after the formation of a national unity government in Sudan in September under a January peace deal that ended a 21-year-long civil war between Khartoum and southern rebels. Sudanese official SUNA news agency reported that the Jordanian king will hold talks later in the day with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on bilateral relations and means to promote cooperation between the two countries. Jordan's Ambassador in Khartoum Ahmed Ibrahim described the Sudanese-Jordanian ties as "distinctive." A former commander of the Jordanian special forces, Abdullah took the throne upon his father's death in February 1999. Source: Xinhua |
