Over 55,000 killed in Oct. 8 earthquake in Pakistan: official

The death toll of Oct. 8 devastating earthquake stood at over 55,000, said Pakistan's Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Sherpao on Friday.

Pakistan's Geo TV quoted Sherpao as saying that so far 55,000 people have been confirmed dead whereas 78,000 have been injured among which 10,000 injured are under treatment in different hospitals of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The minister said that 55 countries had sent aid for quake victims.
