Palestinian security sources said on Saturday that a deal on ending Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel was underway.
The sources said the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) asked the United States and Egypt to prod Israel to end its ongoing airstrikes.
The sources said the PNA also asked the mediators to inform Israel of a new agreement it reached with Palestinian factions. But the PNA declined to give details about the deal.
Israeli warplanes stopped airstrikes Saturday night, while two Palestinian militant groups said in a joint leaflet that their militants fired two homemade rockets at the southern Israeli town of Sderot. No injury was reported.
Since an Islamic Jihad (Holy War) suicide bomber from the West Bank blew himself up in the Israeli city of Hadera and killed five Israelis on Wednesday, Israel has launched a widespread air and ground operation against northern West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
