Rocha has taken the lead in the Uruguay's Apertura football tournament, beating Cerrito 2-0; while big clubs posted weak results, local media reported on Sunday, as the tournament completed its tenth day.
Uruguay has two main football tournaments this season: Apertura 2005, which runs until Dec. 4 and Clausura 2006, which starts in January. Apertura winners qualify automatically for the Libertadores Cup, which groups teams from across the continent.
Mauro Aldave scored Rocha's first goal against Cerrito in the 89th minute and Luis Magureguy scored Rocha's second a minute later; taking the humble club from eastern Uruguay to the top of the table.
Meanwhile, Rentistas crushed Penarol 3-0 in the Centenario Stadium: one of the worst results of the season for the giant of Uruguayan football. Rentista's Brazilian international Zinho scored twice in minute 26 and minute 49, while Robert Lopez scored in minute 71. Rentista dominated throughout the game with solid strategy.
Current league champion Nacional could only score a 0-0 draw against Deportiva Colonia. Its players generated goal-scoring opportunities, but failed to convert them into points.
Penarol, Nacional and Deportivo Colonia now share second place, with Rocha one point clear at the top.
Danubion won 2-1 against Wanderers, breaking with a pattern of disappointing performances.
