Two American soldiers have been charged with mistreating Afghan detainees, said the US military command in Afghanistan on Monday.
According to the US military news release, the two were filed under military law for alleged assault against two Afghan detainees who were temporarily detained at a detention site in the southern Uruzgan province.
The two soldiers were accused of punching the detainees on chest, shoulders and stomach, the military said.
"The command remains committed to investigate all allegations of misconduct and will hold individuals responsible for their actions consist with US military law," it added.
The US military in Afghanistan also assured in the release to take disciplinary action if the allegations substantiate.
The assurance by US military is given just 10 days after reported burning of two Taliban fighters' bodies by American forces, which sparked nationwide condemnation.
Over 400 Afghans have been reportedly imprisoned in some 23 US detention centers on the charge of having links with former Taliban regime.
Since 2002, at least two Afghan detainees have been dead in the US main military base in Bagram 50 km north of Kabul, but the conclusion of the investigation has yet to be made public.
