Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Naji Otri called for a united front on Monday under the mounting international pressure following a UN report implicating Syria in the assassination of former Lebanese premier Rafik Hariri.
Otri reviewed at a cabinet meeting the developments in the region and the pressures and baseless accusations against Syria, according to the official SANA news agency.
The cabinet meeting was held shortly before the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a Western-sponsored resolution demanding full Syrian cooperation with the UN probe into Hariri's killing.
The resolution said the Security Council would consider unspecified further action if Syria did not comply.
The chief UN investigator Detlev Mehlis released an interim report on Oct. 20, saying there was "converging evidence" of Syrian and Lebanese involvement in the killing of Hariri, who was killed in a powerful car bomb blast in Beirut on Feb. 14.
Syria denied any involvement and dismissed the findings as politically motivated and far from truth.
Otri reiterated that such accusations are based on premeditated stances which lack credibility, truth or objectivity.
The United States, France and Britain sponsored a draft resolution last Tuesday threatening Syria with sanctions in case of failure to fully cooperate.
However, the British, French and US foreign ministers on Monday dropped a specific threat of economic sanctions against Syria to secure unanimous support for the draft resolution.
Syria withdrew its troops and intelligence agents from Lebanon in late April after Hariri's death sparked widespread anti-Syrian protests in Lebanon and growing international pressure.
