Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi said Sanya, south Chinas Hainan Province, Tuesday that China and Russia will continue to expand and strengthen cooperation in various fields including trade, energy, space, infrastructure construction, science and technology.

Wu made the remarks at the ninth meeting of the commission for regular meeting between Chinese and Russian prime ministers, which was co-chaired by Wu and her Russian counterpart Alexander Zhukov in this city of China's southernmost province of Hainan.

According to Wu, both sides agreed at the meeting that they will continue to expand trade volume, improve trade structure and streamline trade order; strengthen mutual investment, expand economic and trade ties at border areas; strengthen cooperation in the prospecting and development of gas and oil resources and cooperation in natural gas and power sectors; and deepen cooperation in science and technology, space and infrastructure construction.

Wu said that Chinese and Russian prime ministers will meet for the tenth time this year, adding that important achievements have been scored over the past decade in bilateral cooperation.

"Bilateral trade has quadrupled and is expected to reach 28 billion US dollars this year," she said.

"The cooperation of big projects in energy, investment, science and technology has made fresh progress and significant fruits have been reaped in bilateral cooperation in infrastructure construction including transportation, telecommunication and ports," she added.

Zhukov echoed Wu's appraisal of bilateral relations and cooperation. He said significant progress has been made in bilateral strategic partnership over the past year with mutual trust being enhanced further.

He noted that the Russian side is "satisfied" with the constant development of bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The commission for the regular meeting between Chinese and Russian prime ministers should, on the basis of existing sound momentum, make joint efforts to promote, hammer out a plan for and implement bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, civil aviation, science and technology.

Wu and Zhukov signed the Summary of Minutes for the Ninth Meeting of the Commission for Chinese and Russian Prime Ministers after the talks.
