French TGV to vie for EU passenger transportation business
font size

Guillaume Pepy, CEO of Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francais (SNCF), French state-owned railway company, recognized recently that the TGV(train grande vitesse), the hi-speed train operated by SNCF, would compete with airlines of EU nations for passenger transportation market.

Mr. Pepy also asserted that airlines were making alliances to expand their market and rail operators in EU should do the same.

TGV, normally running 200 to 300 kilometers per hour, is produced by Alstom and operated by SNCF which has built a hi-speed rail network in France and eyes to stretch it to the whole Europe.
