Pakistan earthquake death toll exceeds 73,000

Pakistan government said on Wednesday that the death toll from the Oct. 8 earthquake has soared to 73,276, raising the figure by more than 16,000 from a day earlier.

Major General Farooq Ahmad Khan, the relief chief, told a press conference here that another 69,260 people were injured by the 7.6- magnitude quake which devastated northern Pakistan and Pakistan- controlled Kashmir.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday told the parliament that the death toll was more than 57,000.
