Senior Chinese leader urges stronger competitiveness of domestic firms
font size

A senior Chinese leader on Saturday urged domestic enterprises to establish their own brands and step up independent innovations.

Such efforts are the centerpiece of China's campaign to push ahead with economic restructuring and enhance the nation's global competitiveness, said Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee.

In his instructions written for an economic forum sponsored by the Beijing-based Economic Daily, Li also said leading Chinese media should support the innovative initiatives of domestic enterprises.

His remarks were echoed by Liu Yunshan, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, who said to speed up domestic firms' innovations and brand establishment hinges on not only the existence and development of the firms themselves, but the "overall situation of the socialist modernization with Chinese characteristics."
