According to People's Daily today, the General Customs Office has decided to launch a trial project to facilitate customs declaration in the Beijing-Tianjin region.
Sheng Guangzu, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Customs, made the announcement on Sept. 7 at the ceremony marking the inauguration of the Tianjin International Trade and Shipping Center.
The reform will further simplify and standardize inter-customs declaration process by adjusting the check-up process of customs transit. Importers and exporters with good record of compliance can declare to the customs at the place they are located while clearance and release will be handled by ports.
Beijing and Tianjin are chosen to be the first places for this trial project. For ocean shipping, Beijing customs will be responsible for handling declarations before the goods leave the Tianjin port. And for air cargo, declarations are filed to Tianjin customs and then checked and released by Beijing customs.
The newly built Tianjin International Trade and Shipping Center is located at the Beijiang area of Tianjin port. It preludes the whole project of Tianjin international trade and shipping service zone.
Its 228 service windows integrating 14 government agencies and businesses in world trade, shipping, logistics and intermediaries enable one-stop services. Clients can go through all the procedures at the center. Those beyond Tianjin can make inquiries about customs declaration or trade issues through a phone or a click.
