CPC leader advocates educational campaign to promote Party-building work

A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Tuesday in Xi'an that more effort should be made to push forward the educational campaign on maintaining CPC governance quality.

Zeng Qinghong, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that during his inspection tour of northwest China's Shaanxi Province that such education should be combined with the study of the guidelines of the 16th National Congress of CPC.

"The vanguard character of the CPC members should be reflected in the sustainable development concept," Zeng said.

The campaign, which consists of three stages, began in January this year and is scheduled to last one and a half years. The first stage, which runs from January through June, involved Party organizations at or above county levels.

The second stage, which runs from July through December, involves urban and township grass-roots Party organizations. The third stage, which runs from January to June in 2006, involves Party organizations in the villages.

During the campaign, all 69.6 million Party members are asked to study important documents of the Party to consolidate their political faith, identify shortcomings in themselves and other members around them and take steps to address these shortcomings.

Zeng said the first half of the campaign has gone smoothly and achieved initial successes. The second half of the campaign, which involves a wider range and heavier tasks, requires more resolve and bigger efforts to make it fruitful.
