Qiu Le of China won the men's 62kg category by hefting a total of 322kg to claim the gold medal in the World Weightlifting Championships here on Thursday.

The 22-year-old Qiu met challenge from his national teammate Zhang Ping, but managed to beat him by hoisting a winning weight of 178kg in the third attempt to grasp the gold.

His total result of 322kg also levelled the junior world record created by Olympic Champion Shi Zhiyong.

Zhang Ping, 26, had to settle for the silver medal at 170kg and the European silver medalist Adrian Jigau took the bronze at 292kg.
